That voice is undeniable! Ruby opens her mouth and I'm locked in for the next 3 and a half mins while she tumbles in the depth and darkness of the drama

Ruby mixes drama and darkness so comfortably. It's all boiling away nicely in her bluesy cauldron

Having heard Ruby sing irl now, I can tell you she’s got one of those voices that makes you physically lean forward. Warm but commanding, it rides over these chords and a changing swirling tempos

Long Bio

Ruby Archer is a singer-songwriter from the NSW Central Coast whose music blends tenderness, intensity, and raw emotional honesty. Her songs unfold with dramatic tension and release, creating a connection that lingers long after the final note. As triple j’s Dave Ruby Howe observes, “Ruby mixes drama and darkness so comfortably. It’s all boiling away nicely in her bluesy cauldron.”

A multi-instrumentalist, Ruby’s early experiences in school choirs and orchestras led her to establish herself as a pianist, vocalist, and songwriter. Mentorship from Doran Mode introduced her to jazz and composition, shaping the emotional depth and precision of her songwriting.

In 2022, she released her debut EP chamomile tea recorded at The Grove Studios with producers Jack Nigro and ARIA Award–winner Scott Horscroft. That year, she formed a band, later crowned YouthRock winners, and made her acting debut as Veronica in ABC’s  Soundtrack to Our Teenage Zombie Apocalypse.

2023 was a breakthrough year: Ruby won the 15 Years of triple j's Unearthed High Competition, performed at Vivid Sydney, and earned a 4.5-star review from triple j Music Director Richard Kingsmill for her single New Dream, praising “the drama in it, the tension… the crescendo at the end is bliss.” She was  selected for the 2023 triple J Unearthed High Yearbook voted as the artist "most likely to invent an entirely new chord", performed to thousands at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Fan Festival and received the Australian Music Association Youth Award for New Dream.

Her debut album Oh So Tender (2023), recorded with Jack Nigro and Joshua Craig, was nominated for the 2024 Australian Music Prize and cemented Ruby’s reputation for deeply honest, emotionally resonant songwriting. In 2024,  Ruby was awarded an APRA AMCOS' 23% Mentorship, receiving professional guidance from Mark Lizotte (Diesel) and won Best Music Video for Love Again at the 2024 Coastal Surge Film Festival.

Continuing to build momentum, Ruby won the 2024 Australian Women in Music Awards Emerging Artist category, recognised for her “unique and raw honesty which creates a direct and emotional connection with audiences.”  She placed in the Top 100 of the Vanda & Young Global Song Competition, won the Arts and Entertainment Category at the Central Coast Council Youth Awards, and was a finalist in the Bluesfest Busking Competition in 2025. Ruby was awarded winner of the 2026 Listen Up Songwriting Prize in the Sydney Final on the 26th of September, 2026 where she performed a solo version of  OH SO CYNICAL.

Her second album WORSHIP THE FLORA was released October 2026, marking her debut as a self-producer, taking full control of writing, recording, and shaping her sound. The album’s first single, COMMITTER OF CRIME, received strong reviews, with Tommy Faith from triple j Unearthed describing it as “so raw! so sinister!” while applauding Ruby’s “strength, sensuality, confidence and power.” Her second single, OH SO CYNICAL, was praised by triple j’s Anika Luna, who said Ruby was “really pulling the expanse of her artistry - you can hear that exploration in real time <3.” The title track, WORSHIP THE FLORA, was featured on triple j Unearthed Tops and Spiral, with Music Director Andy Gavrilovic describing it as a “dark and captivating journey” into Ruby’s “avant-garde pop world”.  Tommy Faith awarded the track 4.5 stars, writing: “Might just be the best we’ve heard from you yet Ruby! There’s an organic mayhem to this like a sentient, psychedelic moss entering a town’s water supply.”
